Nairobi City County’s Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has spoken out against what he described as intimidation and public humiliation while executing his official mandate to curb noise pollution.

In a detailed statement shared via his official X account in the early hours of Sunday, July 6, 2025, Mosiria recounted a distressing encounter while responding to public complaints over excessive noise in a residential zone near the State House and Kilimani.

He explained that his team initially responded to a report of a noisy establishment believed to be operating near the Milimani area. However, upon inspection, no club or venue in the area was found to be breaching noise regulations.

“After conducting thorough checks in Milimani and finding no violations, we received a second complaint that led us to the actual source an outdoor event on Dennis Pritt Road in Kilimani, right across from Roadhouse Grill and adjacent to the Spinal Injury Hospital,” he stated.

Mosiria said he was shocked to find a large event with sound equipment comparable to what is typically used at open grounds like Uhuru Park.

The location of the event, he emphasized, made the situation more critical as it sat directly beside a hospital housing patients recovering from trauma, spinal injuries, and fractures.

“In such a sensitive environment, booming music isn’t just disruptive it poses a direct threat to patient recovery. Peace and quiet are essential for healing,” he explained.

He further said that when he respectfully requested the organizers to lower the volume or shut down the event, the situation quickly turned hostile.

Instead of cooperating, the event organizers allegedly responded with verbal abuse, threats of legal action, and attempts to intimidate him and his team.

“They insulted me and even tried to weaponize their lawyers against us, falsely insisting they had the right to operate at that volume in a residential and medical zone,” Mosiria wrote.

Despite the hostile reception, he and his enforcement team remained steadfast and eventually managed to have the music turned off.

Mosiria condemned the incident, reiterating that county officials must be allowed to perform their duties without fear, intimidation, or interference.

He underscored the county’s continued commitment to maintaining environmental standards and protecting the well-being of Nairobi residents.
